VILLAGE COORDINATOR Position Announcement Organizational Mission: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships. Position Mission: To facilitate and provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for youth and staff to learn and grow during the summer camp experience. REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS As the Village Coordinator, you will supervise the counselors living in your age-specific village. You will work collaboratively with other Coordinators to ensure a consistent approach and messaging and to build a cohesive team. The Village Coordinator serves on the camp leadership team which includes the Camp Director, Program Manager, and other Coordinators, and reports to the Camp Director. POSITION AVAILABILITY The Village Coordinator will be expected to work from 7:00am to 11:00pm on a typical day and additional hours when necessary. They are also expected to be on call throughout the night in case of emergencies in their Village. The standard work week is 6 days. This position will require living at the Resident Camp in a small cabin. The Village Coordinator will also be expected to attend a mandatory one week leadership training and two weeks of staff training at the Resident Camp prior to the start of the first summer session. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY You will lead, coach, and develop counselors and provide ongoing informal feedback as well as formal performance evaluations. You will ensure that counselors have the logistical support necessary to do their jobs effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, providing camp schedules, assisting counselors in creating daily schedules, providing necessary supplies, setting expectations for maintaining living units and bathrooms, communicating clearly the Village and camp rules as well as expectations for participant behavior, and communicating organizational policies and procedures. You will educate counselors regarding the special needs of campers and ensure that these needs are met during the camp session. This includes, but is not limited to, activity and dietary restrictions, medical conditions, medications, and allergies that could present challenges during the session. You will promote pro-social behaviors and ensure that participants and employees in your Village are living in a safe and healthy environment at all times. This includes the physical and emotional environment. You will actively participate and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Key competencies: Grit, Growth Mindset, Self Management, Teamwork, Empathy, and Initiative You believe that with the right supports and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable. You can display high energy and endurance to be able to consistently provide an extraordinary experience to participants over an 8-week period of time. You have the ability to work independently and maintain a strong commitment to teamwork; exceptional people management and communication skills. You remain calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff. You have the ability to quickly learn new technologies and functions of the organization’s database system as it relates to supporting program functions. CERTIFICATIONS Certification from a nationally recognized provider in first aid, including training on blood borne pathogens required. Certification from a nationally recognized provider in age-appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that includes the use of breathing devices required. Valid driver’s license in the state of WI is preferred. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE You have experience providing a positive work environment and coaching on how to help employees manage their responsibilities. You have proven experience in managing groups of children effectively and addressing behavioral issues that commonly arise. Previous experience working at a summer camp or summer recreation program preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS You must be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting. Summer camp jobs are seasonal and hours are irregular, including nights and weekends. Employees must have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions (i.e. hot weather, rainy weather, long days, being woken up at night by campers, etc.).
