Press release from the City of Carlsbad:
March 12, 2021
The Carlsbad City Council voted Tuesday to direct city staff to research and develop a resolution declaring a climate emergency, which the City Council will consider at an upcoming meeting. The move is intended to express the urgency of addressing climate change, on par with other significant emergencies that threaten public safety, the environment and property.
The declaration of a climate emergency has become increasingly common among government agencies in recent years as a way to demonstrate the importance of quick and significant action on polices that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other steps to mitigate and prevent further effects of climate change.
