Description
I am the "brewery owner." I actually do not own a brewery, but I work for one.
Why do you musicians need the breweries? Well, I imagine you don't. But I also imagine there aren't a lot of places out there paying for live music. It seems to me you would cultivate positive relationships with the businesses that are paying you.
You said "we should just boycott the lot of 'em and we all can go about our own business." Sure, you can do that. Would it hurt us? No. Would it hurt you? I would guess it would, but I don't know. If you have other places to play that pay good money, you should go there for sure. It wouldn't hurt our feelings. We are too focused on selling beer to notice if we are getting boycotted by musicians. Like I said in my earlier post, no one would notice the difference.
I don't write that to be a jerk. It's just the truth.
You wrote: "...we musicians have expenses too. But I guess the brewery owner (I'm assuming) doesn't understand it that way. He only understands his business."
Yes, you are right. We understand our business. Our business is beer. Making very good beer that acquires a loyal following. The craft beer business has exploded with connoisseurs. People notice if our beers aren't as hoppy as before, or if our seasonals are not up to speed. We get calls every day asking what's on tap. It's what we do. It's not our job to understand musicians, actors, athletes, bridge clubs or church groups. If any of those groups wants to do business with us, it needs to benefit us to be worthwhile.
That's just business. We're not a charity.
