A Musician is an artist who paints his masterpiece on the canvas of silence! When I was learning to keep time, my instructor told me that I needed to PLAY the spaces of the music as well as the notes, and to weigh them carefully so as to not upset the balance of time. When I was learning improvisation, my instructor told me that I needed to PLAY the movements in the chord progression as well as the passing tones. I learned from the Pro's that if I wanted to capture an audience, I needed to color my artistry with some blues and conviction and to pepper it percussively. I learned from the audience what it takes to make them appreciate my ability and respect for my use of the spaces, silence, time, rhythm, movements and passing tones. The notes...well, they're like brushes, how you stroke them is what makes you who you are?
