NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Northwell Health's Ralph A. Nappi Campus in New Hyde Park was bathed in blue light Friday in tribute to fallen health care workers on the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic that gripped Long Island.
The installation, which is titled "Spread the Light," began Friday and will be lit until March 15. Since last year, the health system has treated over 163,000 COVID-19 patients — more than any other health system — while losing 24 workers to the virus, officials said in a news release.
Northwell's president and chief executive officer Michael Dowling said he believes the pandemic will be beaten. "There is "no retreat when it comes to dealing with a crisis like this, especially in health care," he said.
