ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County leaders have scheduled an interfaith memorial to remember the devastating effect the coronavirus has had on the community in the past year. It will be held at 6 p.m. at the county offices in New City. While attendance will be limited due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be livestreamed on the county government's Facebook page. The rapidly spreading disease in the county began to spiral out of control in March 2020. SEE: Coronavirus Cases In Rockland Triple, 5 Dead. The death toll is now at 901. There have been 40,407 people in the county with confirmed cases since then. Rockland currently has 1,848 active cases and 41 people hospitalized with COVID-19. (Rockland County Government) On average, Rockland lost 77 people a month to COVID-19 in 2020. So far in 2021, another 130 people have died.
