ACTON, MA — Two Acton firefighters rescued a teen boy and his dog after the two fell through the ice of a pond Friday evening.
Just before 5 p.m., fire officials were called to a pond near the 50th block of School Street when the 14-year-old boy and his dog fell through the ice.
The pond, which is about 100 yards behind Acton Fire Station 2, is about 6-8 feet deep, and the two were found hanging onto a broken piece of ice. Fire officials said the two were in the water for about five minutes.
Firefighters Gage Cummings and Brent Carter, donning ice water rescue suits, rescued the boy and his dog and brought them safely back to shore.
Fire officials said the boy and his dog were evaluated by paramedics before being reunited with their family.
Fire Chief Robert Hart reminded residents to always use caution when venturing out onto the ice. More ice safety tips can be found here.
