In LA for the last 40 yrs making it happen I use MIDI as my band looking to add 1 or 2 players for lead guitar and backup vocals no gig to small or to big I play 2-3 songs of style every set including originals i.e., Country, Country/Rock, Rock, Blues, Originals etc.
