EAST PALO ALTO, CA — Amazon Web Services is leaving its 90,000 square foot workspace in East Palo Alto this year, according to Silicon Valley Business Journal. In an earnings call last month, officials in charge of the building that AWS occupies in the University Circle complex said that the cloud-computing subsidiary of Amazon would be vacating their space by July. According to the report, the move was motivated by AWS wanting to consolidate its workforce as well as the increase in remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The move would be a blow to East Palo Alto, which has been hit hard by COVID-19 and has an unemployment rate hovering around 10 percent.
