NOVATO, CA – A Novato student group advocating for equity and racial justice will hold a virtual forum later this month. The "Not In Our Town Novato" panel will be held virtually March 25. The meeting is the second of NOIT's ongoing series. The group's first meeting entitled "A More Just Novato for Racial Equity" was held Feb. 11. The March 25 meeting is entitled "A More Just Novato for Racial Equity." "The student panel will take a deeper dive into examining how racism and discrimination dehumanizes and exploits African Americans and other communities of color in our town," NOIT said in a statement announcing the event. The discussion will be followed by a Q and A in which attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments directly to the panel. NIOT Novato launched the virtual speaker series to examine racism and racial injustice with young adults in Novato. Their personal experiences with microaggressions, intolerance and hatred will illustrate how racial discrimination continues to dehumanize and exploit African Americans and other communities of color in Novato, the group said. "The project's goal is to develop action-oriented steps toward eliminating systemic racism and create a more just, inclusive, and equitable Novato," NOIT's statement said. The group plans to hold a meeting in April to discuss ways to dismantle systemic racism for a more just, inclusive and equitable Novato. Not In Our Town Novato is a community organization that promotes a safe, inclusive and equitable Novato community in partnership with the City of Novato, the Novato Unified School District, and North Marin Community Services with the objective of building sustainable and measurable methods that advance the mission of an equitable community. The virtual event will be held March 25 at 6:30 p.m. To register for this event, visit here. More information about NOIT can be found here. A Simultaneous Spanish interpretation of this event will be made available.
