ATLANTA — Police have made an arrest in the shooting death that snarled Friday morning rush hour traffic on February 25.
Alphonso McCoy, 19, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the shooting death of 34-year-old Solomon Howard, police said.
Howard's car crashed near the on-ramp from I-20 eastbound to I-75/85 on the morning of the 25th in Downtown Atlanta. Officers arrived around 5:20 to find Howard dead in the driver's seat from at least gunshot wound. The ensuing investigation stopped traffic on the Downtown Connector for much of the rush hour.
Investigators determined that Howard had been shot at an incident at 911 Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. Homicide detectives eventually were able to identify McCoy and obtain an arrest warrant.
McCoy is being held at the Fulton County jail.
