MELROSE, MA — Twenty-five percent of the city's nearly 29,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday. The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Melrose, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations despite making up just 8 percent of the city's population. Seventy-six percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 51 percent of them are fully vaccinated. Fifty-three percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 17 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 13 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Melrose, a number far outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups. Overall, 7,211 of 28,989 residents in Melrose have received at least one dose and 3,999 are fully vaccinated. The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed continued improvement in Melrose. The positive test rate fell from 1.66 percent to 1.41 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 fell from 16.8 to 14. There were 57 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,750. Mike Carraggi can be reached at [email protected].
