Fifth Of Medford Residents Have Gotten At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

MEDFORD, MA — Twenty-one percent of Medford's nearly 61,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday. The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Medford, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations despite making up just 7 percent of the city's population. Sixty-eight percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 41 percent of them are fully vaccinated. Fifty-one percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose, while 14 percent are fully vaccinated. That group makes up 11 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Medford, a number outpaced by nearly every other age group. Residents ages 30-49 accounted for the largest share of fully vaccinated people at 29 percent. That age range also makes up 29 percent of Medford's population, the highest percentage in the city. Overall, 12,629 of 60,761 residents in Medford have received at least one dose and 6,621 are fully vaccinated. The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed no change in Medford's percent positive rate. However, the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 rose slightly from 16.7 to 17.1. There were 146 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 4,610.
