MALDEN, MA — Seventeen percent of Malden's more than 67,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday. The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Malden, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations despite making up just 5 percent of the city's population. Sixty-nine percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 42 percent of them are fully vaccinated. Forty-eight percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose, while 13 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 10 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Malden, a number far outpaced by nearly every other age group. Overall, 11,453 of 67,654 residents in Malden have received at least one dose and 6,094 are fully vaccinated. The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed increases in Malden's percent positive rate and average daily incidence rate per 100,000 people. However, the city is still considered moderate risk. There were 185 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,140.
