LANDOVER, MD — Police said a ride-hailing passenger tried to carjack his driver while passing through Landover on Wednesday. The assault caused the car to roll over and crash, an incident report added. Officers noted that the accused man called for a ride from Arlington, Virginia to Cheverly, Maryland. Troopers indicated that the suspect hit his driver in the head with a weapon when he exited from westbound U.S. Route 50 onto Maryland Route 202 around 4:30 a.m. Investigators think the weapon was a hammer, the write-up clarified. The driver lost control of his car on Route 202, causing it to roll over and crash, the Maryland State Police informed. Troopers mentioned that an officer from the Cheverly Police Department heard the wreck and headed to the accident. Police alleged that the suspect tried to run away. He didn't get far, however, and officers reported that they arrested him on the scene. State police identified the accused man as 18-year-old Carlson Lamont Mackall of Hyattsville.
