Aquaculture Research Corporation is seeking a Shellfish Nursery Supervisor. A.R.C. is a vertically integrated shellfish farm producing the highest quality oysters and clams from spawn to table. We are seeking a candidate to organize and perform daily nursery operations, fulfill seed orders, interact with customers and manage a staff of 2-3 people. During our busiest season (May-November) this is a fast paced, outdoors, physically demanding, and exciting position. The successful candidate will supervise our three land-based nursery locations and our inter-tidal nursery in Barnstable Harbor, under the supervision of our General Manager/Nursery Manager. In-season duties include, but are not limited to, daily cleaning of nursery tanks and workspace; cleaning, grading, sorting, and measuring juvenile shellfish; transporting shellfish between nursery sites; and coordinating with the sales team on achieving seed sales goals. Throughout the year you will also be asked to assist with other departments including the farms, warehouse, or hatchery. This job is physically demanding. We work in all kinds of weather. Our schedules are very often dictated by tidal cycles, availability of daylight and whether the oysters, clams and scallops are as happy and healthy as they can possibly be. The successful candidate will be highly organized, have good basic math skills, and possess the ability and desire to multitask. He/She will be a ‘people’ person happy to work alone or in a group, an encouraging team leader and willing to offer a helping hand anywhere within the company. Education or interest in a marine, environmental, or biological field is helpful, but not required. Experience on a farm or fishing vessel is helpful, but not required. Candidates with experience working with shellfish are encouraged to apply. This is a year-round position requiring 40-60 hours per week during the season and 30-40 hours per week in the off-season.
