CONNECTICUT — Just under 30 percent of all adults in the state over the age of 16 have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, the Department of Public Health announced today. During a news conference with state health officials on Thursday, Gov. Ned Lamont projected that the vaccines will open up to everyone 16 and older around late April, accelerating the current timetable. The original schedule called for vaccination appointments to open for residents age 16 to 34 on May 3. Eligibility is still set to expand to ages 45 to 54 on Mar. 22, and to ages 35 to 44 on Apr. 12. Those who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine under Connecticut's COVID-19 vaccination program include everyone over the age of 55, as well as all health care personnel, medical first responders, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, residents and staff of select congregate settings, and preK-12 school staff and professional childcare providers. So far, 54 percent of Connecticut's population over the age of 55 has received at least one dose, including 76 percent of those over the age of 75; 67 percent of those between 65 and 74; and 32 percent of those between 55 and 64. A total of 445,231 residents have been completely vaccinated, including two doses each of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, or one dose from the Johnson & Johnson mix. In total, the state has administered 1,258,847 doses. In the latest report from the state Department of Public Health, hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped another seven beds, to 383. Another 735 cases were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 289,392. The daily coronavirus positivity rate dropped below 3 percent, to 2.36 percent.
