NAPERVILLE, IL — A man offered a child candy in an attempt to lure him into his van in Naperville Thursday afternoon, according to a city notification. The incident took place around 2:40 p.m. in the 300 block of North Washington Street. Police say an 11-year-old boy was walking northbound on Washington Street near Spring Street when a white panel van pulled up and its driver offered him candy and told him to get into the van. The boy got home safely and told his parents about the incident, which led them to notify Naperville police. The driver was described as an unshaven white male between 20 and 30 years old, with medium-length, messy brown hair. In light of the incident, police have increased patrols in the area, especially after school. Police are also reminding parents to "speak to their children about stranger danger," the notification said. This is a developing story; check back for updates.
