Press release from the City of Reno: March 10, 2021 In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we've summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today's Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council: B.5 - Mayberry Affordable Housing Council unanimously approved a grant to the Community Housing Land Trust for the construction of units at Yorkshire and West Golden Valley Drive. These ten units will be designated as affordable housing in perpetuity. C.1 - The Canyons Council approved a Planned Unit Development and 71-lot tentative map for The Canyons development. The project provides approximately 29 acres of residential zoned land and approximately 59 acres of open space. Prior zoning allowed approximately 57 acres of single family development. Council added additional mitigation measures for horses and eagles and an additional public trail along the drainageway. D.2 - Downtown Reno Partnership Update Council accepted the Fiscal Year 2022 operating plan and budget. Leadership of the DRP presented surveys and details about the effectiveness of the Ambassadors and other efforts. The program plans to improve graffiti clean-up and trash pickup in the project area. They do not expect a major reduction in services however. D.3 - Reno Fire Department Staffing Council directed Reno Fire Department staff to pursue a grant with FEMA to fund up to 20 new firefighter positions. Staff explained that even with the COVID-19 pandemic, calls for service did not drop significantly. In fact, calls have already increased five percent so far in 2021. I.1 - Mortensen Ranch Council affirmed the previous Planning Commission decision and denied the appeal of the project consideration. G.1.1. - Financial Advisory Board Appointments Council appointed John Briscoe and Jillian Keller. G.1.2. - Access Advisory Appointments Council reappointed Tim Healion, Mark Tadder, and appointed Allanna Warren. G.1.5 - Reno Planning Commission Ward 5 Representative Council appointed JD Drakulich.
