MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN— The city of Mendota Heights announced its plan to become a Minnesota Greenstep City. At its March 2 meeting, the City Council unanimously voted to move forward with the Minnesota Greenstep Cities program, which allows cities to move toward sustainability best practices and improvements of quality-of-life at their own pace, the city said. There are currently 141 Minnesota cities participating in the program, the city said. The program offers 29 optional "best practices" which break down into action steps in these areas: Buildings and lightingLand useTransportationEnvironmental managementEconomic and community development Once it becomes a Greenstep City, Mendota Heights will be recognized when it completes a best practice action step, the city said. The city may also become eligible for financial support to create and maintain green initiatives, the city said. You can read the full news release here.
