Description

Learn all about potatoes - how to grow them and an alternative growing method- and help build five potato towers in this hands-on workshop. Want to grow potatoes but don’t think you have the space, or just don’t want to break your back digging them up? Then Convivium’s Potato Tower Workshop is for you! Join Farm Manager, A.J., for this interactive workshop where you’ll learn all about potatoes, how to grow them, and an alternative growing method that will maximize your growing space with a fun, easy-to-build tower. Because the potatoes will be grown in towers and not in the ground, we are breaking the "plant your potatoes on Good Friday" rule as it always seems to snow one last time early April. This class is very hands-on as you will be building the potato towers from start to finish, please dress accordingly. Note: There will be some interaction with other participants as you will be working together to assemble the towers. To keep participants and our staff safe, the workshop will take place outside, the group will be limited to 10 people, and masks will be required (covering your nose and mouth). Registration for the workshop is $15 and all proceeds support Convivium's free casserole program that provides 175 wholesome meals each week to local individuals and families. TAKE A KIT HOME: If you are interested in taking home a kit to build YOUR OWN potato tower, they are available for purchase through this registration. Kits are $34 each and include the cage, posts, and irrigation for one 3 ft. tall and 2 ft. wide cylindrical potato tower; as well as an instruction sheet for how to assemble the tower. The kit does not include the straw, soil, or potatoes. ***Kits must be ordered by Wednesday, April 14 and will be handed out at the end of the workshop. You do not have to attend the workshop to purchase the kit! You are welcome to order the kit (or more than one) to pick up at Convivium on March 17 between 8 am and 2 pm to assemble at home - instructions are included.
