NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blasio has heard enough — after days of hedging, he said Gov. Andrew Cuomo needs to go. "He can no longer serve as governor," de Blasio said Thursday. "It's as simple as that." De Blasio joined a growing number of lawmakers, Democrat and Republican alike, who have called for the governor to step aside or be forced out in the midst of a growing sexual harassment scandal. Before Thursday, de Blasio remained somewhat coy and refused to outright call for Cuomo's removal. But a new accusation — the sixth against the governor — first reported in the Times Union apparently changed de Blasio's public stance to more-or-less explicit support for Cuomo's ouster. A woman who worked for the Executive Chamber said Cuomo aggressively groped her late last year after he summoned her to the governor's mansion, according to the Times Union. De Blasio called the accusation "disgusting" and "deeply troubling." "That the governor called an employee of his — someone who he had power over — call them to a private place, and then sexually assaulted her is absolutely unacceptable," de Blasio said. Cuomo, according to the Times Union, denied the accusation.
