From The School District of Lee County: March 10, 2021 The best spellers from 15 public and private middle schools across Lee County will compete at the 23rd Annual Lee County Spelling Bee on Thursday, March 11, 2021. The competition will be held at Three Oaks Middle School and will begin at 7:00pm. 30 students will be challenged with increasingly harder to spell words until only one remains. The contestants finished first or second at their school spelling bee to earn the right to compete for the county championship. "If you have never seen a local Spelling Bee competition or the nationally televised National Spelling Bee, the competition is intense and is an experience our champion will never forget!" says Spelling Bee Coordinator Connie Harris. The winner of the Lee County Spelling Bee will compete virtually with hundreds of other local winners from around the country to earn a chance to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals in Orlando, Florida. The Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals will be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort on July 8, 2021. Scripps National Spelling Bee anticipates only 10-12 spellers will qualify to compete in the Finals Competition and the competition will be broadcast live in primetime on ESPN2. Judges for this year's Lee County Spelling Bee are Barry Harris, Ph.D., Estero High School, Chris N. Patricca, School Board Member, District 3, Amy Koenig, District Literacy Coach, and Melissa Ziemer, District Content Specialist. The pronouncer is Dr. Mason Clark, Principal, Three Oaks Middle School. The 2021 Lee County Spelling Bee is sponsored by: The Bridge Fund Kevin Yankow with Key Real Estate My Shower Door Juan Bendeck, Board Certified Wills, Trust, & Estate Attorney Sylvan Learning Ged Law & Heights Title Services Due to COVID-19 protocols, socially distanced seating is limited to two people per contestant and all available tickets have been distributed.
