Lawn Care Help Needed - Small Family-Owned Service
Jobs
Colorado Springs CO
Description
SEASON STARTS AS SOON AS THE SNOW MELTS FROM THIS NEXT ROUND OF SNOW THIS WEEKEND. We’re a very small family-owned lawn service looking for about 3 individuals to help rake and aerate lawns starting now until mowing starts in May and continue to mow lawns for the rest of the season through October. We work on mostly residential lawns. Training is provided so it’s ok if you’re not familiar with lawn care as long as you’re capable. We have a great base crew & customers that have been around a long time and we are looking for people that can fit in with our team. We really enjoy taking care of our customer's grass and have a pretty relaxed, easy-going environment. Spring work can be harder than summer, so we work together on more difficult projects like Leaf Clean Ups, Power Raking, Aeration, & Bush Trimming, & but when Mowing Season begins, we’ll separate and work individually being responsible for our own trucks, equipment & routes. We work individually most of the season, but with communication throughout the day it’s a team effort to get all the jobs done. Job hours are Mon-Thurs from 6:30 am until all scheduled jobs are complete, some days by 3:30 pm others by 6:30 pm, it depends on customer load and weather. Our ultimate goal is to be done by Thurs to have a 3 day weekend. Our workload really depends on weather. We keep Friday and Saturday open in case we can’t finish by Thurs (bad weather). Living in Colorado and constant weather change, the only way we can make an inconsistent weather-based business more consistent is by having accountable, reliable, and flexible people. The Spring work schedule can be more inconsistent because of weather. It could snow on Mon & Tues causing us to work Weds – Sat as an example. As the weather gets more consistent closer to Mowing Season the schedule does too. When interviewed, we are not looking for lawn care experience because this job is not just about mowing lawns. This is a very detail oriented, physically demanding position that requires someone to be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. For example, driving a truck and a loaded trailer all day with many different traffic conditions, keeping a routine of making sure all equipment is properly secure, navigating to get the correct location safely, navigating Colorado terrain when on properties, understanding every lawn and customer is different, and following detailed notes/instruction with each individual lawn. Interviews are done outside in the environment we work in to get a visual of our organization, trucks, equipment, and process. If a verbal interview goes well, we can move on to a short field test. We’re not looking for what you can do with equipment because even if you have experience in lawn care we’re going to teach you our methods and techniques eventually, you may or may not actually even get to handle equipment. We’re looking for signals of patience, teamwork, communication, ability to follow instruction, and being detail oriented on the job. Of course, we are also looking for physical capability and stamina. Although, we value people that are excited and want to jump right in to “show us what they got”, we are looking for proper equipment handling and people who can listen, train, and take care of our investments. We’re ready to hire anyone who can conform to the way we perform lawn care and who allow us to train them in the way that we work. We’re looking for quality help because if hired you’ll be solely responsible for taking care of our long-time customers, friends, family members, and brand new customers that trust us to do everything possible to take care of their property with little to no supervision. Training Pay is $12.50 an hour until we’re both confident enough to turn you loose. After training we’ll discuss pay on an individual basis, most guys make $16 - $18 per hour, based on things like a clean driving record, being knowledgeable of driving with small to medium utility trailers, and feeling like we’ve found someone trustworthy to handle our trucks and equipment. Some companies pay around minimum wage all season while being stuck with a large group of guys all day, but since we work individually all our guys are considered Crew Leaders as they are responsible for everything we own, so we do pay a little more because we expect a little more and so do the customers. We understand this is a seasonal job, and most people are looking for something year-round, but also please understand we would like to see someone here through the end of the season and not just a couple weeks. Customers like seeing familiar faces to hand soda and tips to and frankly so do we. Our website if you want to check us out is www.intermountainlawns.com Please do NOT call our office number. This line is dedicated to customers only. Our office manager will only direct you back to replying by email. Please send us an email with a minimum 4-6 sentences about who you are and why you may want this job and a resume if you have one. Anyone who sends a resume only will not be considered. We’re serious about hiring someone to pay more than minimum wage to mow grass and it’s nice to read about how serious someone might be to work with us and determine how well they might fit in with our team. It also helps us see how good you are at communication because a lot of our communication throughout the day between crews is done through text. We will check Email and respond to you with the location and times for interview. Thank you so much for considering us and we're looking forward to the help!
