Attempted Rape Suspect Sought In East Harlem: Police

EAST HARLEM, NY — A man is being sought for attempted rape after he cornered a woman on an East Harlem street and tried to assault her, police said. Around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, the victim, a 40-year-old woman, was walking near the corner of East 131st Street and Harlem River Drive when the suspect approached her. The man grabbed the woman, threw her to the ground, pulled down her pants and attempted to rape her, according to police. After a struggle, the woman broke free of the man's grip and the man fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said. The woman suffered minor cuts to her head and was treated for her injuries at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital. Police described the suspect as an adult man with a dark complexion and a medium build. He was last seen wearing an orange knit cap, a black hoodie with Nike and NFL logos on the front, a white T-shirt with a black shirt over it, black pants, black sneakers and a surgical mask. The NYPD shared surveillance images of the man taken before the incident.
