Position: CAPTAIN/ MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE MANAGER Department: Operations Location: Portland, OR Reports to: Operations Manager Job Summary: Captains work with a team to ensure the Portland Spirit fleet of five vessels are in proper working condition to ensure that an average of two thousand cruises annually operate safety, on time, with little or no down time. Captains work collaboratively with other Captains, managers and crew to ensure satisfaction of guests. Captains follow and carry out company policies, department policies and follows all federal and local regulations. This position reports directly to Senior Captain and Operations Manager. Essential Duties: • Responsible for overseeing crew safety training. • Assist with hiring and training of new operations staff and evaluate skill level. • Manages and oversee completion of PMS on all vessels and facility’s on a daily, weekly, monthly, bi-annual and annual basis. • Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, consumables, chemicals, etc. • Complete end of the month paperwork for engineers on all vessels. • Maintain our MRQ system to track current maintenance issues. • Responsible for scheduling fueling of all vessels. • Must create a report on a quarterly basis of completed maintenance, and capital improvements for board meetings. • Must directly oversee and manage maintenance projects in the off season. • Must assist in USCG annual inspections, five year dry dock inspections and COI inspections. • Maintain current documentation and required literature on all vessels. • Logistics planning for new trips. • Assists operations manager with payroll, schedule, invoice filing and other management duties. Requirements: • Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays. • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs on a regular basis. • Travel may be required for specialty cruises and working from different locations. • On call to respond to emergencies. • 100 Ton License Communication Skills: • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively present both sensitive information in one-on-one situations, and comfortable with public speaking in group situations. • Excellent written English skills, with ability to prepare professional documents and reports in a timely manner. • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, and the ability to use necessary levels of tact and courtesy.
