Press release from the Des Moines Public Schools: March 10, 2021 The Winter sports season at DMPS may have been delayed as a result of online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic, but on December 23 practices resumed and play soon got underway. In girls' basketball, two teams in particular – North and Roosevelt – had notable seasons. The Polar Bears not only had a winning season but reached a double-digit number of victories, including a first-round win in the post-season. The Roughriders were ranked for much of the season, were undefeated in the CIML Metro Conference, and came up just two points shy of a trip to the state tournament. In addition, Roosevelt sophomore Arianna Jackson was picked for the All-State 2nd team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. This week the CIML Metro Conference announced their all-conference girls' basketball teams.
