PHILADELPHIA — Two Philadelphia hospitals were ranked among the best in America by Newsweek. The magazine's "World's Best Hospitals" list for 2021 ranked the top hospitals around the world, including in the United States. It's the third year Newsweek has published the list, for which it partnered with the data firm Statista. Ten Virginia hospitals ranked among the top 200 in the U.S., while another five hospitals were included in the overall list but did not rank among the top 200. Newsweek ranked Penn Presbyterian Hospital No. 16 nationally and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals No. 72 nationally. In its methodology, Newsweek explained that it looked at three data sources to compile the rankings: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical KPIs on hospitals. These are the top 10 hospitals in the United States, according to Newsweek. Methodology: The World's Best Hospital ranking lists are based on three data sources: Recommendations from medical experts (doctors, hospitals managers, health care professionals); results from patient surveys; medical KPIs on hospitals. U.S. hospitals were also awarded as best hospitals for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on six different measures.
