NORRISTOWN, PA — An important road work project has been completed in Norristown, bringing with it a changing traffic pattern. The reconstruction of the northbound lanes of Markley Street has been completed, in the stretch of road between Marshall and Main streets, PennDOT said. The completion means that southbound traffic on Markley will be shifted to the northbound side, as reconstruction now commences on the southbound section of the bridge over Stony Creek. The traffic shift will occur at some point in the mid-afternoon on Thursday, March 11, and could lead to brief stoppages and delays, PennDOT said. The $23.9 million project to reconstruct this stretch of road began in early 2020. Related work included relocation of utilities, construction of a new stormwater drainage system, and construction of the new Stony Creek bridge. Utility and drainage work between Marshall and Elm streets is expected to be completed by mid-2021. Pedestrian access will be maintained on at least one side of Markley during the work.
