GENEVA, IL — More than three dozen Geneva residents died from COVID-19 during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, public health data shows.
The city's death toll includes 32 residents of long-term-care facilities, which have been among the hardest-hit communities since the start of the pandemic. The Illinois Department of Public Health has linked 30 of those deaths to Bria of Geneva.

The first coronavirus case in Kane County was identified March 10, 2020, in Geneva. By March 10, 2021, the city had recorded 2,249 cases.
Public health data shows more than 55 percent of the city's cases were reported during the final three months of 2020 amid a huge surge throughout the state.

Since Jan. 1, 494 Geneva residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, the state's data shows.
The city's seven-day rolling average of new cases stood at about 4.7 Thursday, down from an all-time high of more than 33.7 on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), according to public health data.
