Press release from the City of Elmhurst: March 10, 2021 PRESS RELEASEFor Immediate ReleaseMarch 10th, 2021  For Information Contact:Commander Jim Gandy (630) 530-3050  St. Patrick's Day Traffic Enforcement Period The Elmhurst Police Department continues to take part in a year-long grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to try to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI, seatbelt, and distracted driving laws.  The next campaign of this grant will begin on March 12th and continues through March 18th to encompass St. Patrick's Day. This grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers, seatbelt violations, and distracted drivers. The majority of extra enforcement will take place during the evening and overnight hours, which tend to have the highest number of fatal and serious injury traffic crashes.  Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and to always buckle up.As always, anyone who plans on drinking should make alternate travel arrangements or ride with a designated safe driver. People are also encouraged to contact police if they see a vehicle that appears to be operated by an intoxicated driver.  #### This press release was produced by the City of Elmhurst.
