ELMHURST, IL — A couple found an intoxicated woman sitting on their front steps in the 500 block of Swain Avenue in Elmhurst, police said. They called police and told them they didn't know who she was. One of the officers recognized the woman from a previous incident, according to a police report obtained through a public records request. She was identified as Gail C. Brasie, 36, of Elmhurst. The incident was about 7 p.m. Feb. 28. With police on hand, Brasie repeated, "You need to leave, you need to leave," the report said. The police contacted Brasie's husband, who said he would be on his way to resolve the problem. One of the residents in the house on Swain said Brasie did not say much when he saw her. When he asked her whether she lived nearby, she said, "No," police said. According to police records, Brasie lives six blocks away, or a half mile. Brasie would not tell officers where she lived or why she was at the house, police said. The resident said he was not alarmed or disturbed by Brasie's actions, but wanted to get her help if that was what she needed. When an officer told Brasie her husband was on the way, she swore at the police. Her speech slurred and her eyes glassy, she refused to let a medic examine her, police said. When Brasie's husband showed up, officers asked Brasie to walk down the steps and leave because she was on private property. Someone attempted to help her down the stairs, but she became angry, police said. She threw her purse down the steps, striking an officer in the legs, according to the report. Then she threw her metal keys at the same officer, which went past the left side of his head, almost hitting him, police said. Brasie was then placed under arrest on charges of assault and battery, both local ordinance violations. When she was walked to a squad car, she shouted profanities and dragged her legs, creating deadweight, police said. At the police station, one of the officers took off Brasie's right handcuff. Then she pulled away, not allowing the police to remove her left handcuff, the report said. Then she appeared as if she were about to spit at an officer, police said. Brasie was released on bond to a friend, who showed up in the police station lobby.
