CHICAGO — "F--- Tucker Carlson," U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth tweeted Thursday from her re-election campaign account.
Illinois' junior senator's tweet came after the Pentagon and top U.S. military staffers called out the Fox News host for comments he made mocking women serving in the armed forces. He criticized the U.S. military for creating uniforms that fit women properly and changed rules regulating soldier hairstyles.
"So we've got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits," Carlson said. "Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It's a mockery of the US military."
Following the F-bomb aimed at Carlson, Duckworth, a double amputee who lost her legs serving in the Iraq War wrote: "While he was practicing his two-step, America's female warriors were hunting down Al Qaeda and proving the strength of America's women."
The senator's comments were billed as "belated International Women's Day" wishes to "everyone but Tucker, who even I can dance better than." Duckworth's dig about Carlson's dancing is a reference to the Fox News host's appearance on Dancing with the Stars when he was eliminated after his first appearance in 2006, two years after she was injured during the war.
F*ck Tucker Carlson. While he was practicing his two-step, America's female warriors were hunting down Al Qaeda and proving the strength of America's women. Happy belated International Women's Day to everyone but Tucker, who even I can dance better than. pic.twitter.com/E4wchht9lA— Tammy Duckworth (@TammyforIL) March 11, 2021 This is a developing story.
