Description

On Sunday, April 11th, join us for an in-person walking tour of the Jonathan Street Neighborhood! Described by author Lynn Bowman as “a story of America in miniature,” Hagerstown’s Jonathan Street Neighborhood is a historic African-American community. The Jonathan Street Neighborhood was formed after the Civil War, at a time when African Americans were bound by segregation laws that restricted their movements and opportunities. In an effort to circumvent these laws, African-Americans in Hagerstown created their own community along Jonathan Street. On Sunday, April 11th, join us for an in-person walking tour of the Jonathan Street Neighborhood! The tour will begin at the Miller House Museum. Sites will include Asbury Methodist Church, Medal of Honor Triangle, the cabin at 417 Jonathan Street, and more. This will be an outdoor, family-friendly event. Social distancing will be observed.
