Press release from the Atlanta Police Department: 03/10/2021 UPDATE: The suspect in these incidents was identified as James K Crew, age 51. Crew is currently in the Fulton County Jail charged with Hijacking a Motor Vehicle, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony.   Previously Released:   On 3-10-2021, beginning around 10:15 AM, APD began receiving calls regarding several carjackings on the city's southeast side.  Officers quickly responded to each and began gathering details.   The preliminary investigation indicates a male suspect had carjacked an AT&T van near Fraser Street and Georgia Avenue. The male drove the van to Milledge Avenue and Cherokee Street where he left the AT&T van and carjacked a Nissan Pathfinder, taking the driver of the Pathfinder with him. He dropped the driver off near 741 Memorial Drive and drove to Memorial Drive and Moreland Avenue where he left the Pathfinder and carjacked a white Volvo SUV. The suspect drove the Volvo to the 100 Block of Dahlgren Street where he attempted to rob a pedestrian. At some point, during the robbery attempt, the male suspect fired several shots. No one was struck and the suspect then drove to Wylie Street and Moreland Avenue where he attempted to rob another pedestrian. The robbery was unsuccessful, with no shots fired and no one was injured. The suspect continued on to Moreland Avenue and Custer Avenue where he attempted to order a female into the vehicle with him. She refused and fled on foot.   The suspect then entered I-75 traveling north and was quickly located by officers in an unmarked vehicle. APD's air unit responded and followed the vehicle to Roswell Road in Cobb County where it was stopped by the Georgia State Patrol. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. A handgun has been recovered and the male is in custody at APD headquarters as our robbery investigators work to piece this together. We anticipate multiple charges being filed as this investigation progresses.
