Press release from the Atlanta Police Department: 03/10/2021 The Atlanta Police Department is pleased to announce an arrest in the October 13, 2020 murder of 26-year-old Kewan Cody. Officers were dispatched to 402 Sawtell Ave SE in reference to a person shot call.  Once on scene, officers discovered a male deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.  Homicide detectives were notified and began to investigate the circumstances that lead to Kewan Cody's death. After a thorough investigation, Homicide detectives were able to identify a lone suspect in this case. Warrants were issued for 27-year-old Derrick Elliot for Murder.  On Tuesday, March 9, 2021 Zone 5 Field Investigative Team (FIT) conducted a traffic stop at 190 Marietta St NW.  Upon further investigation, officers were able to positively identify the occupants in the vehicle. Before the vehicle came to a complete stop the Officers noticed the passenger throw something from the vehicle. Officers realized the passenger, Derrick Elliot, had a warrant for Murder and were able to detain him after gathering his correct information and identifying  him as Derrick Elliot (12-1994).  He was taken into custody and transported to the Fulton County Jail without incident.   Thank you to all of those involved for taking a murderer off of the streets of Atlanta. If you have tips on a crime in your neighborhood, call 911 or call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) where you can report anonymously. #WeCatchBadGuys   Previously released: Preliminary information:  On October 13, 2020 at around 7:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to 402 Sawtell Ave SE in reference to a person shot call.  Upon arrival, officers located a male at the location with multiple gunshot wounds.  Grady EMT's and Atlanta Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and despite life-saving efforts, the male died from his injuries.  Homicide detectives were notified and will be responding to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.  There is no suspect information or motive to provide at this time.
