SALEM, MA — When Norwich University dedicated its new $1.6 million Cybersecurity War Room room in the name of longtime Salem-born state auditor and former state judge Thaddeus "Ted" Buczko in 2018, Norwich President Richard W. Schneider said: "Ted had embodied the Norwich guiding value of service before self." On Sunday, the one-time Salem City Councilor who spent a lifetime serving the state and the city, died. He was 95 years old. "Deeply honored to have known Judge Ted Buczko as a dear friend and mentor," State Sen. Joan Lovely posted. "He was a truly remarkable individual who dedicated his life to helping others. I send my heartfelt condolences to his friends, family and all who knew him." Buczko became a Salem City Councilor in 1955, the state auditor in 1964 and was a Massachusetts Probate and Family Court judge from 1980 until he retired in 1990. He was a current member of the Salem Board of Trust Fund Commissioners. He attended the 2018 Norwich ceremony in his honor. "With grateful appreciation for Ted's service to Norwich University, the Mack Hall Cyber War Room is dedicated in his honor, with gratitude, by the Board of Trustees and the President of Norwich University," Schneider said that day. Buczko graduated from Norwich with honors in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts in government. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. In 1996, Buczko received an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from Norwich and created the Judge Thaddeus Buczko Scholarship to assist with students in financial need.
