Marlborough Will Re-Start Annual Internship Program This Summer

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough will re-start its annual college internship program, which was placed on hold last summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is the ninth year of the program, and it will be a little different in 2021 with internships limited to city departments that either work outdoors or can accommodate social distancing. Here's more from a city of Marlborough press release: Mayor Arthur Vigeant is pleased to announce that the City of Marlborough will continue its summer intern program for college students for the ninth year. The program was cancelledin 2020 due to COVID-19. With lifted restrictions the City can resume this successful program limited based on departments that can socially distance or work outdoors. This initiative was proposed by Mayor Arthur Vigeant in 2012 and has been funded by the City Council each year. Since inception, this program has provided real world employment experience to over 80 college students. "Internships play a key role in workplace experience and it gives students the edge they need when entering the workforce. I am proud of this program and look forward to resuming it after a year that has certainly disrupted many lives and businesses. We welcome the opportunity to work with students and prepare them for a successful future," said Mayor Vigeant. This program is open to all area college students enrolled in various courses of study. Although, preference is given to Marlborough residents, all interested college students are encouraged to apply. Due to COVID restrictions, internships will be limited and based on outdoor work and offices that can provide social distancing. The Deadline for applications is April 30.
