Description

The Art & Soul of Gardening will be featured through a plant and art show. We look forward to seeing you in Dell Rapids! Dear SDFGC, Inc. Members, After a year of social distancing and Zoom meetings, it’s time reconnect with old gardening friends and welcome new ones! The Dell Rapids Area Garden Club is hosting the 2021 State Convention on Saturday, July 24th at the American Legion Hall in Dell Rapids and we would LOVE to see you there! This year’s theme, “The Art & Soul of Gardening,” will be featured through a plant and art show. You are encouraged to bring entries in the following categories: 1. Floral arrangements 2. Houseplants 3. Garden-themed art (painting, drawing, photos, mixed media, etc.). Peoples’ Choice Awards will be given in each category. For those of you who’d like to extend your stay, there will be a Meet & Greet on Friday evening at the home of our new state president, Thelma Busk. Before that, check out our charming downtown shops, art deco movie theater, coffeehouse, golf course, recreational trail, and restaurants. Add a mini-garden tour to your weekend by visiting five local gardens that are open to the public (see map). The convention doors open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning for checking-in, setting-up your plant/art show entries, and browsing at the sales and Ways & Means tables. Everyone is encouraged to donate white elephant items/plants to the tables (please price your sale items). The Board of Directors and Advisory Council meeting will begin at 8:30 and the full convention will start at 9:15. Our main presenter this year will be Christina Lind, education coordinator and horticulturist from McCrory Gardens in Brookings. She will be speaking about McCrory’s test gardens and educational programs and do a brief session on “Common Gardening Questions .“ In the afternoon the Dell Rapids Area Garden Club will give a talk and tour of the Red Rock Garden—a wildflower garden tamed into a pollinator garden and popular recreational trail destination. The Mitchell Garden Club will be presenting the Memorial Service for members we have lost since the summer of 2019. Send an abbreviated obituary to Linda Mortimore at [email protected] that includes gardening contributions of the person being remembered. To help us with final planning, please submit your registration and payment by July 8th. Thank you! Looking forward to seeing everyone in July!! Members of the Dell Rapids Area Garden Club
