We need to re-home our 10 month old, 48lb dog; she is part boxer and part red healer. We love her and she is a great dog on most all accounts, so it is a sad direction for us to have to head. She is playful, athletic, loves the snow, loves hiking and climbing rocks, loves the dog park and plays well with other dogs, often comes, sits, and stays and of course loves belly rubs. She has also tolerated our cat. She is strong willed and can also be anxious and nervous. She will bark when someone knocks on the door, when she gets startled, or if she meets a stranger she is afraid of. She loves the adults in our family and also our older daughter to the point where she wants to protect them and does not always want to share them. She has barked, growled, nipped, and bitten our younger kids when startled or when being possessive or anxious. She can be slow to warm up to people, but once she has she is the cutest when some comes and wants belly rubs.
She recently got bitten while playing at the dog park, and it was a traumatic experience for her. She has been more aggressive and anxious since then and has nipped/bitten a few of us since then. We all really love her, but we no longer feel she is safe for our younger kids to be around when we aren’t present or when she gets nervous, startled or possessive, and we know that a house with three kids can be chaotic, so we are looking to find a home that can better support her anxiety and unique needs and one that can provide her the loving and less chaotic environment she deserves.
We will only re-home her to a home with no young kids and to one where we believe she can thrive and have people that can support her anxiety. She is a smart dog, has learned a lot, and we believe she can be a great companion dog for the right person or couple. She is up to date on all of her shots and has been spayed.
