SANTA MONICA, CA — Help is on the way and urgent relief for Santa Monicans is coming, Santa Monica City Manager Lane Dilg said this week. Dilg released a statement following the news that the American Rescue Plan recovery and stimulus legislation was passed over the weekend in the U.S. Senate. Congress approved the relief plan Wednesday, CNN reports. Now, it will head to President Joe Biden's desk for him to sign. The U.S. Senate Sunday passed the amended version of the recovery and stimulus legislation, a big step toward relief for Americans and also Santa Monicans, city manager Lane Dilg said in a statement Sunday: "The U.S. Senate passed an amended version of President Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan recovery and stimulus legislation, including $350 billion for state and local government relief. The passage of the American Rescue Plan is a huge step forward for working families in Santa Monica and across the country, and will provide much needed funding to accelerate vaccine rollout, reopen schools, and support small businesses in our community. In addition, the City is very pleased to be receiving $26.7 million from the bill to help offset the very substantial COVID-related revenue losses that the City budget has experienced over the first year of the pandemic."
