Norristown Readies For $13 Million Municipal Hall Renovation

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown is preparing the next major step of its ongoing revitalization. The $13 million renovation project on municipal hall will break ground this Friday, officials announced. The project calls for extensive additions and renovations to the center of town government, which has stood since 1972. The construction plan calls for the addition of a four-story, 562 square foot steel and concrete building adjacent to the existing structure. The new building will be used for administrative offices. A second, single-story, 2,648 square foot addition will house the detention area and provide an improved access point to the renovated police facility. RELATED: Downtown Norristown Gets $1M For Redevelopment Project Other significant changes include a new HVAC system, new electrical and plumbing, new roofing, renovation of facades, lighting and plantings in the parking lots and public spaces adjacent, and other fundamental infrastructure improvements. Norristown says they've considered these renovations for years, with plans finalized in Nov. 2019. Leaked pipes last summer forced the council to accelerate the renovations and move. The hall houses the municipal council chambers, police, fire, code enforcement, finance, municipal development offices, and more.
