NEWTOWN, PA — A longtime local resident and political newcomer has announced her bid for a seat on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors in the 2021 election. Andrea Ahern is running for the supervisor seat occupied by David Oxley, a Democrat who was appointed to the seat in January of last year to fill the vacancy of former Supervisor Linda Bobrin, who was elected to the Bucks County Register of Wills. Oxley, whose term is set to expire this year, has not publicly stated whether he plans to run for re-election. Ahern is a vice president and business development officer at Firstrust Bank, where she has been providing assistance to local shop owners who have struggled to turn a profit during the COVID-19 pandemic, her campaign said in a news release Tuesday. The Temple University and Council Rock graduate says she enjoys spending time with her two sons, Ryan and Conner, and volunteers her time as a board member with the Daniel K. Wepryk Foundation, a nonprofit that teaches youth about the dangers of opioid addiction. As a resident of Eagle Ridge, Ahern has publicly voiced her opposition to Arcadia Land Company's planned development of 60 new homes at Buck Road and the Newtown Bypass, which supervisors approved last month as part of a settlement agreement with the developer. Ahean is running alongside Newtown Supervisor Kyle Davis, who is seeking re-election to a six-year term. The Republican was elected in 2015 and was the only supervisor to vote against the Arcadia development. "I'm proud and honored to run with Kyle. I've been impressed with the way he really cares about all the residents of Newtown," Ahern said. "I think Andrea's financial experience, her understanding of Main Street business, and her passion for open transparent conversation will be an asset to a Board that really needs all three," Davis said. The part-time supervisor position pays about $4,000 a year. Like what you're reading? Sign up to get daily Patch emails and stay in the know on local news: https://patch.com/subscribe
