CuriOdyssey is a leading-edge science and wildlife center for children. CuriOdyssey combines an interactive science learning environment with up-close, native animal encounters to foster the natural scientist in all children. Located in Coyote Point Park in San Mateo, California. This part-time temporary role will assist the Operations and Maintenance Manager in maintaining the facility and equipment in a clean and well-functioning manner to provide a welcoming and safe environment for our visitors, volunteers and employees. Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following: • Be able to handle minor repairs in the buildings and zoo to meet AZA standards. • Perform a variety of regular routine preventative maintenance tasks. • Complete work order request forms for maintenance and repairs by the requested date. • Complete maintenance inspections on various types of equipment. • Schedule and deliver CuriOdyssey vehicles for tune-ups done by outside vendor. Knowledge, skills and attributes: • A basic skill level in building maintenance in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, etc.) is required. • Follow written and oral instructions; skillfully use hand and power tools of a variety of building trades; learn quickly new methods or techniques of maintenance and repair work; perform heavy physical labor; complete checklists and inspection reports. • Will be checked out and/or trained on all tools and equipment at location. Education & Experience • Any combination of education and experience equal to two years of recent building and grounds maintenance experience, including landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, painting and HVAC maintenance. Ability to maintain accurate records via on-line computer systems. General awareness of safety/security issues and compliance. Physical requirements and work environment: • Work involves moderate to heavy labor in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), climb ladders, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position Overview: • This is a Part-time temporary, non-exempt position (Time frame is about two months.) • Schedule is 16 hours/week, Monday and Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. • Compensation $20 per hour.
