UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man was slashed following a fight on a subway car heading through the Upper East Side on Tuesday, police said. The incident happened around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday aboard a southbound 4 train, when the victim, a 55-year-old man, got into an argument with another man. As the train pulled into the 59th Street–Lexington Avenue station, the assailant hit the victim on the head with an unknown object, causing a laceration to his forehead, police said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. Police have made no arrests. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 150 pounds. Tuesday's incident came exactly a week after a similar slashing at the same station: on March 2, a man used a knife to slash two other men on a downtown N train, according to police. The men held the suspect at the 59th Street station until police arrived. Crime in the Upper East Side's 19th Precinct is down by 46 percent overall this year compared to the same period in 2020, according to NYPD statistics.
