Newman said working in Tuscaloosa for the past decade has shown him the important role Alabama's community colleges play in providing a path to a better future. "As a local industry leader, I know first-hand the critical role Shelton State plays in the community and the important impact the quality education and training the college provides has on the local economy," he said in a media release. "I look forward to meeting with students, faculty, staff, and administrators over the coming weeks as we take steps to continue to move Shelton State forward." The school says Newman has 28 years of leadership and management experience, previously working as the plant manager for the Tuscaloosa manufacturing facility, in addition to his service with West Alabama Works. Newman is also a founding member of the German Business Council and a member of the Alabama Germany Partnership, while serving as an advisory board member for the University of Alabama Blackburn Institute.
