Learn to paint in the style of Matisse! In this class, participants will learn about Matisse's position in art history while they are walked through the process of painting a piece inspired by the work of Matisse. Participants are recommended to have the following supplies, but if you don't have everything, don't let that stop you from joining the fun! -Small tubes of red, blue, yellow, white, and black acrylic paint -Two brushes, preferably size 2 and 8 -A pencil and eraser -Either some heavy-duty paper or a canvas -A disposable pallet (a plastic takeout contain works fine for this) -Container for water -Paper towels -Masking tape -Newspaper to protect work space -A smock to protect clothing Jennifer Burkin is both an artist and art educator. Jennifer has a Master's degree in elementary art education from Tufts University in affiliation with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Additionally she has a Graduate Certificate from Harvard University in Museum Studies. She grew up in Brookline, MA and now lives on Martha's Vineyard where she continues to make art, sell her artwork, and teach art. Jennifer paints with acrylics and adds in handmade papers, found objects, etc, turning many paintings into mixed media pieces. Her subjects are largely domestic, many pieces are in fact of her own dog. Other images of domesticity are kitchen utensils and children's and women's clothing.
