Millennials in America have long been deemed an “unlucky generation” growing up in the face of financial recessions, acts of terrorism, generations of systemic racism, and paralyzing waves of unemployment rates. However, they are also a generation of persistence and perseverance, continuing to get back on their feet to achieve the “American Dream” despite crippling and unprecedented hurdles. The challenges Gen Y has had to face have only worsened in 2020 with the challenges of the past year. For many millennials this universal pause occurred at a pivotal point in their lives with many finally achieving career success, financial stability, and looking toward marriage, children, homeownership, and more. With the world scrambling to survive the unimaginable, how are millennials navigating through this period of isolation and what are their thoughts on what the new landscape for Generation Y will look like in the future? Join a diverse panel of millennial voices to hear firsthand how the challenges of the past year have affected all aspects of their lives, including the Broadway performer whose dream role came to a halt, the entrepreneur whose new business continues to face an uncertain future, and a new mother navigating the path of motherhood, and be inspired by their message of hope. She is currently the Director of the Transgender Emergency Fund, the leading crisis agency for transgender communities in Massachusetts, and she is committee member of the Boston Medical Center Transgender Task force. Chastity was a committee member of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition 2014-2018 which is an organization dedicated to ending discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Chastity began her own transition early at the age of 18 when she moved to Boston to safely pursue her gender affirmation process. After making Massachusetts her home, surviving domestic violence, and survival sex-work she proudly obtained a Masters Certificate in Non-Profit Human Services Management from Clark University. Prior to her work with Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, Chastity led the transgender health programming at AIDS Project Worchester. Many of the support groups and transgender-focused health navigation models she founded there were the first of its kind in the city. It was because of this trailblazing work and her commitment to strengthening marginalized communities, that Chastity was the 2016 recipient of the Belinda Dunn Award at the 27th Annual Bayard Rustin Community Breakfast. She then went on to be the Program Coordinator of TransCEND (Transgender Care and Education Needs Diversity) at AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, a program dedicated to uplifting transgender communities in Great Boston through health navigation, peer support groups and social events. From her continued dedication to this community in 2018 she was the recipient of the Advancing Equity Award presented by The Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth, PrEP for Pride Community Service Award June 2018 by Fenway Health and Lee Entertainment, August 2020 25 Most Influential LGBTQ+ People of Color in Greater Boston by Get Konnected, October 2020 Audre Lorde Trailblazer Award by Fenway Health, October 2020 Lavender Rhino Award by History Project, and November 2020TDOR Resiliency Award by Trans Resistance MA. Chastity is honored to have received these awards but if she could, she would trade them in to health those less fortunate with nutrition, housing, etc. Chastity is committed to assisting with the advancement of transgender communities, and all marginalized women especially, towards full equal rights. The constant disenfranchisement faced by transgender and cisgender women within society is what motivates her as a female activist. This only the beginning of her journey on making this world a better place not only for Transgender/Gender non-conforming individuals but for everyone. Here's how Chastity describes the passion behind her work: "I feel the most important thing I can do is help to empower and uplift the voices of transgender individuals in our community through support and advocacy. We are doing some great things to move our community forward right here. I hope to see the Transgender community in Massachusetts spread its wings and become a force that helps shape the national Transgender Rights Movement. There's so much more work that needs to be done." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MATT COLLETTE is an executive producer at WNYC Studios. He's worked on The Experiment, Trump, Inc.; Nancy; and Free Shakespeare on the Radio at WNYC, as well as The Washington Post's daily news podcast, Post Reports. He has a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TIM HALL is an award-winning musician and performance poet from Detroit, MI, now residing in Boston. His poetry draws inspiration from his lived experiences - charting the nuances of blackness, masculinity, and the beauties of life. He has performed at Boston's Hub Week, The Museum of Fine Arts, New Orleans Museum of Arts, Outside the Box Festival, Bridgin' Gaps Festival, and many other venues and poetry slam communities around the Boston/Greater Boston area.
