FALMOUTH, MA — Select Board member Doug Jones will not seek re-election in Falmouth, he announced at Monday's board meeting.
Jones served on the Select Board for nine years. Although he enjoyed his work on the board, Jones said he didn't want to serve longer than three terms.
"I had great enjoyment in working with all of you and previous board members, but I think three terms is enough," Jones said.
Board Chair Megan English Braga and other members congratulated Jones and commended his service to Falmouth.
"I won't cry publicly, because I won't subject people to that, but I think you know how everyone on this board and the folks in this community feel about the service you have provided for nearly a decade, which is just an enormous amount of time," English Braga said.
Jones' vacant seat will be filled following the May 18 town election. Nomination papers are available in the town clerk's office through March 26.
Candidates then have until March 30 to return the nomination papers after they've been signed by at least 50 registered Falmouth voters. Papers can be returned to the clerk's office or dropped off in the drop box outside Falmouth Town Hall.
Besides Jones' seat, there are 10 other expiring terms in Falmouth. They include:
