Join us for this online workshop to explore ‘ekphrasis’ (poetry in conversation with art) and learn how to write your own ekphrastic poetry. She holds an MFA from Southern Connecticut State University, where she taught in the English Department. A recipient of the Leslie Leeds Poetry Prize, she's also received honors from Connecticut Poetry Society, Arts Café Mystic, and UCONN, among others. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Storm Cellar, Connecticut Review, South 85 Journal, The Lake, Black Coffee Review, Blue Monday Review, and Hartskill Review. Additionally, she serves on the board of directors of a local music nonprofit. Workshop is LIVE via Zoom (fully online) Led by Rebecca O'Bern, Founder/Executive Director of Guide to Write Meets Saturday, March 27th, at 2pm EDT OVERVIEW In this creative workshop and seminar, Rebecca will walk through the history of ekphrastic poetry writing, which is the practice of crafting poems inspired from other art forms, such as painting, sculpture, film, and music. Some examples of ekphrastic poems include "The Starry Night" by Anne Sexton, "The Disquieting Muses" by Sylvia Plath, "Cézanne's Ports" by Allen Ginsberg, "Empty Chairs" by Liu Xia, "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" by William Carlos Williams, and "Capriccio of the Imaginary Prison" by Richard Garcia. Students will be guided to explore avenues through which to read and appreciate these types of poems and, ultimately, learn how to write their own ekphrastic poetry.
